Definition: The continuous process by which a refrigeration system removes heat from a low-temperature space and rejects it to a higher-temperature environment.
Four Basic Steps::
1. **Evaporation**: Refrigerant absorbs heat and evaporates (cooling happens here)
2. **Compression**: Compressor raises pressure and temperature of refrigerant vapor
3. **Condensation**: Hot vapor condenses to liquid, rejecting heat to ambient
4. **Expansion**: Expansion device reduces pressure, preparing refrigerant for evaporation
