The amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1 kg of a substance by 1°C. Measured in kJ/(kg·°C).
Strip Curtain (PVC Curtain)
Overlapping plastic strips hung in doorway to reduce air infiltration while allowing easy passage for people, forklifts, and carts.
Subcooling
Cooling liquid refrigerant below its condensing temperature while maintaining high pressure. Typically 3-10°C of subcooling at condenser outlet.
Superheat
Heating refrigerant vapor above its evaporating temperature while maintaining low pressure. Typically 5-15°C of superheat at evaporator outlet.
Sustainability Certification
Various certifications demonstrating commitment to environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and reduced carbon footprint.
Temperature Abuse
Storage or transport of temperature-sensitive product outside specified temperature range, compromising safety or quality.
Temperature Cycling
Repeated temperature fluctuations above and below the target temperature range. Can be caused by poor equipment control, door openings, or system cycling.
Temperature Differential (Pull-Down Time)
The time required to reduce product temperature from initial temperature to target storage temperature. Also called “cool-down time” or “freeze-down time.”
Temperature Excursion
An event where product temperature moves outside the specified acceptable range. Must be documented and investigated per R638 and GDP requirements.
Temperature Gradient
Temperature variation within a refrigerated space or vehicle, typically measured as the difference between warmest and coldest locations.
