Port Elizabeth Cold Storage (PECS) is a leading cold storage facility established in 2008, strategically located in the Coega Port Zone. PECS predominantly serves the fruit export industry of the Eastern Cape, South Africa’s second-largest citrus-producing region, handling over 200,000 pallets of citrus exports annually (approximately 8% of national citrus exports). The facility features cold rooms and steri chambers for preparing fruit for export, with on-site PPECB inspectors verifying temperature regimes prior to loading. PECS Container Terminal has 510 plug-in slots for reefer containers and provides logistics services to transport containers to and from port. The facility was acquired by Commercial Cold Holdings (CCH) in November 2025 (70% stake), strengthening CCH’s position as Africa’s largest cold storage platform.
